Conceived as Rochester's answer to the legendary South By Southwest music conference, the inaugural Rochester Indie Fest presents six acts in six hours over two stages for $10. For now, the festival takes place under one roof, but founder Ned Corman envisions future growth and sees the layout of downtown as ideal for venue-to-venue walking traffic. He and his partners see the RiF as nothing less than a way to encourage young professionals to plant roots in the area. Locals Gregory Paul, Julia Nunes, Veluxe, and Mint Jam are joined by singer-songwriter Jodi Shaw and funk-rockers the Wicked Felinas.
The Rochester Indie Fest kicks off Saturday, October 4, 7 p.m. at Water Street Music Hall, 204 N Water St. $10. 325-5600
