A drum corps is not just a marching drum unit - it consists of brass instruments, percussion, and a color guard, and can have up to 150 members. As such, this year's world championship promises to be large and loud.

Festivities start on Friday, August 29, when I & E (individual and ensemble), and mini corps contests take place at the Riverside Convention Center (123 E. Main St.) and the Clarion Hotel (120 E. Main St.) starting at 5 p.m. You can also step outside along the Genesee River for food, drinks, and music at the drum corps block party.

Head to Paetec Park (460 Oak St) on Saturday, August 30, at 2 p.m. to watch and listen as two dozen drum corps vie for a spot in the final competition. Then, before the final round takes place, you can catch nine alumni groups perform on Sunday, August 31, at 10 a.m. (also at Paetec Park). The final competition begins at 5:30 p.m., and will be directly followed by a victory concert. Go to dcacorps.org for more information. Tickets cost $15-$30; call 888-300-6910.
